known for its beer gardens, parties and events. A little farther north in the district of Vegesack is the so-called Maritime Mile. There you can admire old captain houses, historic ships in the museum garden or the majestic tall ship Schullschiff Deutschland. However, the four best-known figures in Bremen are not maritime: the Bremer Stadtmusikanten (the Town Musicians of Bremen), including a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster - the central characters in the Brothers Grimm's famous folktale of the same name. The most famous statue of the Stadtmusikanten stands west of Bremen's town hall, which is itself regarded as a true stunning piece from the Weser Renaissance. The building and the magnificent Roland statue have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2004. Schnoor quarter, which is Bremen's oldest district, is also worth a visit. The charming half-timbered houses, where today there are cafes, restaurants and small handicraft shops, lie side by side all the way to the narrow alleys.
